Last week we learned about some kids in Lowell Dohrmann’s
class that built a robot for a competition to pick up ping pong balls. We have to admit, we were a little disappointed. We had so hoped they
were actually building some sort of teacher-eating, super robot that
would have taken over the high school, but alas..... only a ping pong,
picker-upper. When we were just little boys, robots were one of the things promised
for our future. In fact, We can remember hearing that every home
would have a robot. We dreamed about our robot all the time.
Our robot would clean our rooms, help with homework
and beat up the kids that picked on us. But, we never got our robot as
kids. But the idea of MLHS’s robot inspired us. We talked of boyhood
fantasies (no, not those) of building robots, and we even decided to
build one to hold the drum machine for our little band, "Dorfus
CrackTractor". We’ve been unable to secure a drummer, so
we’ve been using a drum machine. It was time she became a robot
drum machine. It’s true, we spent some time last week gathering up parts to build
our robot that we’ve named, "Roxie v.1.0". We wanted her
functional by Halloween. With some vacuum cleaner parts, some dryer vent
hose, some spray paint, LED lights and a couple of 9 volt batteries,
we’ve got her complete. We’ve even thought of writing a song about our robot. Here’s some
rejected song titles about robots. If you don’t get these, you’re
either too old or too young or you need to get out more..... The top 10 rejected songs about robots: * For Those About To Lock, We Reboot You; * (I Wanna Live With A) Silicon Girl; * 1000 110 111 101 11 0 1001 (Jenny); * Hz So Good; * Who Left the DOS Out?; * Born to Be Oiled; * Sprocket Man; * 10 PRINT "Strawberry Fields" / 20 GOTO 10; * The Way We Whirr; * You Can Call Me HAL; * Great Balls of Wire
